    Jury Service
I have done jury service and would have argued against this case if i had been there. They did not deserve prison in my opinion, some help would've been better to get them off drugs.
The news report is as follows:
'Cardiff The mother and half-sister of a girl of 16 who died of a heroin overdose when they failed to call an ambulance have been jailed.

Andrea Townsend 46, and Gemma Evans, 25, were found guilty of the manslaughter of Carly Townsend through gross negligence. The trial last month was told that the two women knew the teenager had taken the drug and was suffering the effects of an overdose.

But Miss Townsend was put to bed in the recovery position and left to “sleep it off” at the family home in Pwll, Llanelli.

The judge at Cardiff Crown Court, Mr Justice Lloyd Jones, told the two women they both knew the symptoms of an overdose, having experience through their own drug abuse. He said Evans's offence was much more serious than her mother's because she had acted as an intermediary in getting the drugs to her. He jailed Evans for four years and Townsend for two years.'

    so sad
this made me cry. WHY do they do this sort of thing?
hands up who hates this world at times...me!me!me!

A drunken 15-year-old boy stamped to death a young student because she was dressed in the distinctive fashion of a ‘Goth’, a court was told yesterday.

Sophie Lancaster, 20, and her boyfriend Robert Maltby, 21, had been meandering home through a skate park late on a Friday night when they were set upon by a gang of teenagers in a savage and unprovoked attack, the jury heard.

The five-strong gang acted “like a pack of wild animals”, first targeting their violence on Mr Maltby, an arts student also dressed in the style of a Goth or mosher, raining punches and kicks on his head as Miss Lancaster pleaded with them to stop, it was alleged. It was as Miss Lancaster was kneeling down cradling her boyfriend’s head that the accused, along with another teenager who has already pleaded guilty to murder, are said to have turned their attention to her.

The two teenagers kicked and stamped on her head, the jury at Preston Crown Court was told.

One young witness, who tried to stop the violence, told police later: “It looked like they were running over and just kicking her in the head, jumping up and down on their head or summat . . . they were kicking her all over her head.”

Ambulance staff, who could not distinguish Miss Lancaster’s sex such were her injuries, took the couple to hospital where she died two weeks later without regaining consciousness. Her boyfriend, who has no memory of the night, survived but still suffers poor health. The defendant, who cannot be named, has already pleaded guilty with four others to causing grievous bodily harm to Mr Maltby. He denies murder, insisting he took no part in the attack on Miss Lancaster. Each of the youths lives in the area of Bacup, Lancashire.

    The Death Penalty
'A convicted paedophile has been jailed for life for murdering his girlfriend, whose body lay undetected in a cellar for eight years.

The jury at Manchester Crown Court decided by a majority of ten to two that Frederick Lawlor, 54, murdered mother-of-four Dorothy Carre, 56, in 1999.

It heard how Lawlor stabbed her to death in the front room of their house in Rochdale, before burying her in a shallow grave in the cellar.

Lawlor is already serving an indeterminate sentence for sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl and offering her for sex with other men while he watched and filmed them.

Mrs Carre's daughter Lynn Edwards, 42, shouted 'Yes!' and rushed out of the public gallery as the verdict was delivered, while Lawlor sat impassive in the dock.

Jurors - who had not been told of Lawlor's paedophile past - gasped as they learnt he was jailed in Strangeways Prison in April last year after admitting 18 sex offences involving the girl on beaches in North Wales.

Two female jurors burst into tears and others shook their heads at the news.

The judge in that case said Lawlor had abused the girl on at least 75 occasions and described the acts as among the 'most evil and unpleasant' the court had come across.

As well as offering her for sex at his flat and in a car to men he met on beaches at Pensarn and Llanddulas, he advertised in the publication Loot.

Police were alerted after a member of the public saw the girl being abused on Pensarn beach late at night.

The young victim said she was abused by around 50 men, with ten people so far convicted in connection with the case.

Lawlor was arrested in March this year after police investigating the disappearance of mother-of-four Mrs Carre found the remains of a body under the cellar floor at the address in Equitable Street.

Although there was no soft tissue, DNA testing provided 'extremely strong' evidence that the remains were those of Mrs Carre. She had last been seen alive by her GP on March 11 1999.

Despite evidence linking him to the address, Lawlor denied ever living there and claimed Mrs Carre left him in 1999 to go and live in the Republic of Ireland.

The court also heard that Lawlor had two previous convictions for physically abusing former girlfriends.

In 1981 he was convicted of actual bodily harm after he repeatedly punched his girlfriend and then jumped on her stomach while she was seven months pregnant.

And in 1987 he was sentenced to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for an attack on another partner which had striking similarities to the death of Mrs Carre.'

I read this and i do wonder sometimes if the death penalty is such a bad thing. With a proven history like this he should never ever walk free again. He should die there whether that is through old age or ill health!

    Same Mistake
I have always taken the lyrics to mean something other than about self harm. I guess I base my interpretation on my time in the military and in combat zones.

In society, and specifically the military, the "enemy" is depersonalized, degraded and dehumanized to a less than human status. This is done by using racial and ethnic slurs, euphemisms and in general not refering to them as individuals and human beings.

It is commonly accepted that this is done because humans find it almost impossible to kill an enemy that they see as being honorable and worthy like themselves. In a sense you need to hide from the humanity or your enemy before you can cause them mortal harm.

One of the most startling things an individual in a violent encounter can experience is the realization of the other persons humaness. The traumatic effects of this are proven in the alarmingly high rates of PTSD among those who have been engaged in a violent act at arms distance or less. It is almost impossible to hide the humanity of a person when you are that close.

For some, that moment no longer allows them to function, while others float between personal and impersonal views of the enemy. The emotional distance is a form of self preservation.

So when I hear the lyrics:

    "Said he'd seen my enemy,
Said he looked just like me,
So I set out to cut myself
    And here I go"

I hear of the realization of this hunanity in the other person, the resignation and acceptance of attacking them and then the off handed mindset that creates emotional distance.

I saw this opinion of this song and thought i would share it with you. I love the song and think it is about the fact that your enemy is no different to yourself which is pretty much what he is saying in his review..xxxx

    He'll spontaneously combust
    He'll go to jail
    He'll be put to death

Linkin Park - Hands Held High
If you haven't heard this song yet, it is something you should have done yesterday! Go on....do it now!!!

    Turn my mic up louder,
    I got to say somethin.
    Lightweights steppin' aside,
    when we comin.
    Feel it in your chest,
    the syllables get pumpin.
    People on the street,
    they panic and start running.
    Words on loose leaf,
    sheet complete coming.
    I jump on my mind,
I summon the rhyme of dumping.
    Feeling the blind,
I promise to let the sun in.
    Sick of the dark ways,
    we march to the drumming.
    Jump when they tell us
    they want to see jumping.
    Fuck that, I want to
    see some fist pumping.
    Risk something.
    Take back what's yours
    Say something that you know
    they might attack you for
cause I'm sick of being treated
    like I have before.
    Like it;s stupid standing for
    what I'm standing for.
Like this war is really just
    a different brand of war.
Like it doesn't cater to the rich
    and an abandoned the poor.
    Like they understand you
in the back of the jet,
When you can't put gas in your tank.
These fuckers are laughing their way
to the bank and cashing their cheque
asking you to have compassion and to have some respect.

    For a leader so nervous
    in an obvious way
    Stuttering and mumbling
    for nightly news to replay
and the rest of the world
watching at the end of the day
    in the living room laughing
    like what did he say?

    Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

    In my living room watching,
    But I am not laughing.
    'Cause when it gets tense,
    I know what might happen.
    The world is cold,
    The bold men take action.
    Have to react,
    To getting blown into fractions.
[Hands Held High lyrics on http://www.metrolyrics.com]

10 years old is something to see,
Another kid my age dragged under a jeep,
Taken and bound and found later under a tree,
I wonder if he even thought the next one could be me.
    Do you see?
The soldiers that are out today.
That brush the dust with bulletproof vests away.
    It's ironic.
At times like this you pray,
But a bomb blew the mosque up yesterday.
There's bombs in the buses, bikes, roads,
inside your markets, your shops, your clothes,
My dad, he's got a lot of fear I know
but enough pride inside not to let that show.
My brother had a book he would hold with pride
A little red cover with a broken spine.
In the back he hand wrote a quote inside,
when the rich wage war, it's the poor who die.

Meanwhile, the leader just talks away
    Stuttering and mumbling
    for nightly news to replay
and the rest of the world
watching at the end of the day
    both scared and angry
    like what did he say?

    Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen.
